Actual measurements are listed below. Excellent distressed condition. Whiskers in front thigh area for actual wear, NOT from a factory. Hem is fringed. One belt loop is fringed, others are starting to fringe. Left back leg is cut off right below the pocket. Classic rise 4 pocket booty cut off jean shorts. Intact and working metal zipper in front fly. Black washed antique brass color riveted button on front waistband says: "Levi Strauss & Co. * S F. Cal*" around the circumference. Traditional Levis arcuate V back pocket stitching. Traditional gold top stitching. Orange Levi's tag on back pocket. Back yoke. 7 belt loops. Own a piece of history. These were most likely flare jeans, definitely from the 70's. During the 80's these were cut off to make Daisy Dukes. For the last 30 + years these have been tucked away at my house. I doubt you can imagine my joy at finding them. It is past time for someone new to add to the history of this pair of Levis. Orange tabs from the 70's are much sought after and scarce. Research copied front the internet: "They also don't have ANY tags OR metal. There is no patch. There is a single fly button, and a single (Scoville) zipper. There are no rivets, hidden or otherwise. The orange Levi's tag is the only thing I had telling me where they came from. They are not selvedge, but they also have beautifully clean inseams that I've never seen before. They have seven belt loops, which feels like a ton.
From the limited googling I've been able to accomplish, they could either be part of a recent orange tab line by Levi's, OR they could be somewhere in the mid 70s. I absolutely cannot figure it out. There is no care tag. There is no SIZE tag (seriously glad my curiosity won yesterday and I tried them on).
Those I believe are Levi's 517. It could either be an LVC repro or an original made in USA version. The way the back pockets are spaced out and edged closer to the outseam makes me think those are 517 bootcuts. I have the LVC version and also a deadstock MiUSA ones I bought on ebay years ago. The denim on the deadstock pair are certainly hairy and not as saturated dark blue as most raw denim I'm used to. Either way, great find. Could you take a picture of the back of the button? It will help identify which plant your pair was made at."
