Educational: What fond memories we created the year we read the Little House books for our homeschool. We used the Prairie Primer and organized a small co-op. My son was in 3rd grade and my daughter was in 1st grade. I made my daughter a dress, pinafore any sun bonnet. My son wore overalls. I read the books out loud everyday. We used the McGuffy readers some. My daughter did math on a small chalk board. She was learning division and usually wrote the incorrect number on top when copying the equation. One day when she realized she had the problem written upside down I could see her aha moment and she tried turning the chalkboard upside down to get the larger number on top. It was fun to see her reaction when that didn't work out so well. In our coop we did a writer's workshop once a month, went on field trips, had a family meal of pheasant and dumpling,. Being from the Midwest we went to the Little House museum in Burr Oak, Iowa and the Old Threshers reunion in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. I learned a lot too and it was a great multi-sensory year of learning.
